Accounting for leaving the break room: Work obligations as a resource in transitions from one activity to another at the workplace

We approach break taking at work as social activity and examine closings a type of transition from one to another. Using conversation analysis, we draw on video data five communities in Finnish institutions higher education focus linguistic practice that the participants frequently utilize closings: accounts end citing obligations. Our show addition multimodally adjusting their leaving ongoing activity, may present resumption necessary obligation use this conventionalized leave company others legitimately. Thus, they display orientation significance co-presence solidarity between colleagues somewhat accountable action.
